LOST ___

( ___ 찾습니다)

Collaboration with Choe Rayun

LOST___ (___ 찾습니다) is a public project that shares stories about things that have disappeared but still exist and things that exist but have been forgotten.

Rayun and I, living in different places, were inspired by our mutual interest in capturing history and storytelling. Rayun researched a 450-year-old Zelkova tree in her neighbourhood while I learned about the declining history of the printing houses district in Gyodong, Suwon.

We both longed for the humanness slowly disappearing in the fast-growing city life. We combined the stories from my neighbourhood with those of the people of Gyodoong. I have been collecting street signs in Toronto since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through them, I am sharing the daily lives of people in my community: searching for lost items like skates, dogs, and cats, seeking the owners of found pets, organizing neighbourhood gatherings to restore a sense of community, and sharing their political beliefs.

We established a sharing spot at 'I am Milk Cafe' in Gyodong to showcase our stories and provided blank posters for participants to share their own stories: Is there something that stays with you long after it happened, occasionally pops into your mind, and fills you with regret?

We hope this will be an opportunity for us to come together and share stories about lost or unforgettable objects, people, situations, and times.
